ABERG, Carol Nann McGuire

February 11, 1923 – March 24, 2013

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Carol on Sunday, March 24, 2013 in Calgary, Alberta. Mom passed peacefully and surrounded by love.

Carol was born in Clare, Michigan on February 11th, 1923, the only child of Fred and Nina McGuire. Her early years were spent in St. Paul, Minnesota and she graduated from the University of Minnesota with a BSc. in Nursing in 1946. During the war, with her future husband serving in Europe, she was often in charge of thirty to sixty patients day and night due to the nursing shortage. She continued her career after beginning her family, as a nurse in Texas and Ontario. Besides her professional career, Carol travelled the world with her husband Dick during their sixty-five years of marriage. Carol was an active community volunteer, having served as President of Rockyview General Hospital Volunteer Auxiliary and as organist at Lakeview United Church. Carol was also a very active and enthusiastic bridge player throughout her life.

Carol was the cherished mother of Susan, Ken (Kathy), Steve (Marybeth), Karen and Scott (Leanne). She was the proud grandmother of Megan, Chris, Tim, Graham, Laura, Erika, Bryce, Madison, Kira and Raeleigh. She also loved her seven great grandchildren, Abby, Alida, Kellan, Max, Leo, Brio and Avianna to pieces.

She was predeceased by her oldest daughter Susan in 1996 and her husband, Richard in 2011.

Carol will be particularly missed by her family and friends as she was a gracious, caring and exceptionally well mannered individual who had a ready smile and brought much joy and happiness to all who knew her.

A Memorial Service will be held at McInnis and Holloway’s Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Dr. SW Calgary, AB) on Friday, April 12th at 1:00 pm. Reception to follow. Please forward condolences through
