With a profound sense of loss, the family announces the passing of Andy Fiell on Sunday, January 29, 2012, four days after his 75th birthday. He passed away peacefully in his sleep, and in the comfort of his home.
Andy was a native Calgarian, and lived his entire life in the city. He grew up in Riverside and attended Crescent Heights High School and went on to become a successful independent business owner. Many Calgarians will remember him as the long-time proprietor of Harold Runions Shoes, and later, Bearspaw Gas. He was a respected businessman with a highly skilled emphasis on customer service.
With an abundance of charm, a ready smile, a beautifully turned out and handsome appearance, Dad was a very attractive and popular personality. He was a gentleman who adored fine clothing, travel, social gatherings, cocktails, a good story, and most of all, dancing to Frank Sinatra with his beloved Betty. Dad had a superlative knowledge and appreciation for fine music, and his family were the lucky beneficiaries of listening to beautiful music every day. A long-time and talented fly fisherman, Dad also loved and deeply enjoyed the great outdoors. He spent many happy hours fly fishing in the Purcell’s and on the Bow River, and cross country skiing in Kananaskis.
We are very grateful for his unique and wonderful kindness as a husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was an extremely devoted husband and tenderly and lovingly cared for his wife during her long illness. His powerful support, love, and charm will never be forgotten and we will treasure his vast and deep contribution to our lives.
Predeceased by Betty, his dearly loved wife and partner of 48 years, Andy is survived by his children Nancy Calvin (Bruce) and Michael Fiell (Lisa), and his grandchildren Spencer Calvin and Lindsey and Sean Fiell. He is also survived by his siblings John Fiell, Joan Jaskulski, Bob Fiell, Connie Fiell Mahoney, Terry Fiell, and their families.
