Beverly Ann Smith passed away peacefully with her life partner Manfred Schrader and her son Michael Ranger by her side on Monday, October 31, 2011 at the age of 70 years.
Beverly is survived by her mother Edna Barclay, her son Michael, her sister Sandra Swan and her two nieces Kim Renaud and Sherri Kauer. She is also survived by her three grand nieces, one grand nephew and numerous other family and friends. Beverly was predeceased by her second husband David Smith and first husband David Ranger.

It is with great sadness that we announce that Samantha “Sam” Nicole Hurley beloved wife of Paul of Calgary lost her courageous battle with colon cancer on Monday, October 31, 2011 at the age of 37 years.
Sam was a dedicated wife, daughter, step-mother, grandmother, auntie, friend and co-worker. She will be missed by all those that she touched.
Besides her loving husband Paul, Sam is survived by her mother Ruth Nicholls; brother and sister-in-law Ian and Alice Nicholls; mother and father-in-law Edward and Josephine Hurley; step-son and his wife Simon and Joey Hurley; cherished granddaughter Helena; niece Baylee; as well as by many members of her extended family and friends. Donna Henley of Calgary passed away peacefully at the Peter Lougheed Hospital on Monday, October 31, 2011 at the age of 82 years.
Donna was born in Calgary on August 16, 1929 and grew up in Saskatoon. It was there she met Bill and they were married in 1951. She will be remembered as a loving and caring mother and grandmother, always putting her family’s needs before her own. She was a trusted friend to many, reaching out and helping others whenever she could with her optimistic outlook on life. She was a wonderful listener and was always there when you needed her. Donna enjoyed golfing, curling, camping and a good game of bridge. She appreciated the simple things in life and valued time with family and friends.
Donna is survived by her children Grant (Patti), Lynda (Gerry), Cathy (Wayne), Dean (Colette); and by her grandchildren Tom (Lindsay), Carly (Brad), Jenna (Jason), Tanner, Laura and Emily. She is also survived by her sister Pat Coghlan of Saskatoon. She was predeceased by her husband of fifty-seven years, Bill Henley and four sisters, Phyllis, Nan, Gwen and Peg.
The family would like to thank Donna’s caregivers: Bev Paine, for her dedication, love and loyalty, she has been with Donna for more than three years and became a member of the family. Also Mary Wallace and Gaynor Hepworth who were loving and caring companions and provided a constant source of support during a very difficult time. Their loving care will always be remembered.

George Alexander Leslie passed away on Monday October 31, 2011 at the age of 93 years.
George is survived by his wife Judy; sons David (Diana) and Stephen (Kathy) as well as grandsons Patrick and Warren. George is also leaves his brother Gordon and his sister Kathleen (Bunny) Hyatt; sisters-in-law, Jean Leslie and Audrey McKibbon as well as many nieces, nephews and their families. George was predeceased by his wife Marjorie in 1995; his parents, John Cook and Agnes Elizabeth Leslie; his brother Jack and his sister Dorothy Matthews.
George was born in Calgary and lived most of his life here until he and Marjorie retired to Victoria in 1980. Having grown up in the area now known as Sandy Beach he attended Elbow Park, Rideau Park and Western Canada High School. Following service in WW2 he built several houses in Calgary, operated a dairy farm and several other enterprises before becoming one of Husky Oil’s first employees. After earning the Appraisal Institute of Canada designation he created his own company. He was a member of the West Calgary Rotary Club, the Glencoe Club and a proud Mason. George was always full of stories and could recite numerous poems learned in childhood well into his eighties. He loved the mountains and often recalled the best job he ever had as a bellhop at Deer Lodge. For many years George enjoyed the experiences and friendships he shared with the Skyline Hikers of the Canadian Rockies and the Great Caribou Trail Riders. He envied the cowboy life saying more than once he thought he would have liked to have lived during the cowboy era.

Donald Allan Ross passed away peacefully at Wentworth Manor on Monday, October, 31, 2011 at the age of 94.
Don is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Grace; his daughter, Wendy Dunsmore; his grandson, David; his granddaughter, Tanya (Duncan), and two great-grandchildren, Imogen and Jasper of Ottawa, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his four brothers, Bill, Ken, Jack and Bruce. Born and raised in Calgary, he resided here almost all his life. He studied Optometry at the University of Toronto, and during WW II served in the RCAF, before transferring to the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps. He met Grace when they were both in the RCAF, and they were married in October 1943. In 1946, he opened his Optometry practice in the Fitzpatrick Building on 7th Avenue S.W. Some years later, he was joined by Dr. George Edworthy, and the practice continues to this day, in a different location, under his son Dr. Gene Edworthy. Don will be remembered for the kindness and concern he showed for all those whose lives he touched. For the past five years, Don and Grace have lived at Wentworth Manor, where they have received excellent care. A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Joseph Heffernan, age 89, resident of Calgary for sixty-four years, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, October 30, 2011.
Joseph is survived by Marie (nee Reid), his loving wife of sixty-seven years, his children Dwight (Valerie), Cheryl Braunwarth, Barry (Cheryl-Ann), Eva Mills, grandchildren Amber, Crystal and Joey Braunwarth, Christopher and Jay Heffernan, Krista and Shayla Mills, and great-granddaughter Jaden Braunwarth
He was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Eva (nee Charlebois), who raised him on the farm in Grainger, AB.
Joe was a long time member of the Plumbers Local 496. His career spanned forty-six years while in Calgary, Rainbow Lake, Fox Creek and many other Gas Plants. He volunteered at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and during the 1988 Olympics. He adored his antiques, “cranking up” his 1928 Chev and collecting coal stoves. Joe loved appearing as an extra in multiple movies and for four years in the TV series, Lonesome Dove. He enjoyed playing pool and gained the name “Grandpa Shoot the Ball”.
For those wishing to pay their respects, the casket will be open prior to Mass beginning at 11:00 a.m. at ST. JOSEPH’S CATHOLIC CHURCH.

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Jack Wendelin Heffner on Sunday, October 30 2011 at the Foothills Hospital at age of 69 years.
Jack was born the youngest of twelve in Macklin, SK on October 19, 1942 to Nick and Rose Heffner. During the 70’s and 80’s Jack worked for Eaton’s and Woodward’s Contract before starting Heffner Interiors in the early 1990’s. This business continued to operate very successfully up until his passing. Jack had a large, devoted family and many friends who loved him and will miss him dearly.
Jack is survived by his sisters Evangeline, Loretta and Annrose; brother George; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Jack was predeceased by his wife Evelyn; parents Nick and Rose; sisters Regina, Euphrasia, Zita and Elizabeth; brothers Peter, Joseph and Nicholas.

After many hugs, kisses, and “we love you’s,” Mom went peacefully into the arms of the Lord, on Sunday, October 30, 2011 at the age of 83 years.

Doris was born May 12, 1928 in Standard, Alberta. Mom and Dad celebrated their sixty-fifth wedding anniversary on October 27, 2011, just days away from their actual anniversary date November 8.
She is survived by the love of her life, Don, son Darcy (Kathy), daughter Diane (David), and her grandchildren Marty, Jillian, Lisa, Brandi, Crystal, and Lance.

Arnold Barr beloved husband of Josephine Barr of Calgary, passed away on Sunday, October 30, 2011 at the age of 82 years.
Arnold was born on September 26, 1929 in Pincher Creek, AB to Stanley and Vera Barr. He grew up on the family farm in the Summerview District north east of Pincher Creek on the Oldman River. He attended public school at Summerview and Pincher Creek High School. In July 1947 the farm was sold. In August the family moved to Kelowna. In the fall Arnold worked in the Packing House handling the fall crop of apples. In 1948 he attended Herberts Business College and then was employed at Victory Motors GM Dealership. On August 22, 1953 Arnold married Josephine Jantz. In 1956 they moved to Calgary when he joined the Investors Group. In 1971 he changed occupations back to the automobile industry and was with Jack Carter Chev Olds for over 25 years. He retired on July 31, 1997.
Arnold was a member of the Kinsmen Club where he was very active, serving on several committees and the executive. He also served on the T.B. Association (now known as Alberta Lung Association). He has been active in golf and curling and was a past member of the Pinebrook golf Club. Currently he was a member of the K40 club and the Calgary Oldtimers Curling Club.
Besides his loving wife Josephine, Arnold is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law Blair and Jan and Darryl and Patti; grandchildren Jenna Karpoff (Adam), Kimberley, Brittany, Kevin and Rebecca; and sister Dorothy Ellis. He was predeceased by his brother Allister.
