RIVEST – Cynthia “Cindy” Louise

RIVEST – Cynthia “Cindy” Louise

February 28, 1986 – November 30, 2010

Cynthia (Cindy) Louise Rivest, chosen and always cherished daughter of Bob and Jane passed away suddenly at Rockyview General Hospital on the evening of November 30, 2010 as a result of a pulmonary embolism at the age of 24 years.

Cindy was an incredibly creative, caring, and strong willed person who played life to the beat of her own drum. She was proud of her 14 years volunteering as a face painter with Betty’s Run for ALS – the only morning of the year when we could easily get her out of bed. Cindy loved little things in nature; a bug on a leaf, a spider in a web and could find them in places no one else would and saw nothing but beauty in all forms of life. Cindy met the love of her life, Robert Falk (Colorado) online. This summer, they spent five months and countless hours together talking, laughing and treasuring each other’s company.

She has left behind her most treasured brother Christopher, his wife Sarah, and her dear niece Ruby Padbury. She also leaves her grandmother Lucille Rivest as well as special aunts, uncles and cousins across the country and her beloved cat Meko.

A Celebration of Cindy’s Life will be held at HILLHURST UNITED CHURCH 1227 Kensington Close N.W. on Sunday, December 5, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. Our sincere thanks to the emergency department team at Rockyview for working so hard to bring Cindy back to us, but it was not to be. Her last words to Jane in the waiting room at the emergency department were “I hope the ALS angels look after me tonight” and we know they will. Please no flowers. If people wish to remember Cindy in a special way, donations to the ALS Society of Alberta, Support for Champions Children’s Program, 400, 320 – 23 Avenue SW, Calgary AB T2S 0J2 or www.alsab.ca would be most appreciated.

WIEBE – Jacqueline (Jackie) (nee Lust)

WIEBE – Jacqueline (Jackie) (nee Lust)

September 21, 1933 – November 28, 2010

Jacqueline June (Jackie), beloved wife of John Wiebe of Calgary, passed away on November 28, 2010 at the age of 77 years.

Jackie was born in Medicine Hat, AB on September 21, 1933, the second daughter of Jack and Hilda Lust of Box Springs, AB. Jackie started school at east Coulee School. The family moved to Etzikom in 1941 when the federal Government appropriated the land north of Medicine Hat for defense training purposes. Jackie continued school in Etzicom and Foremost. Following Jack’s death in 1949, Hilda moved her family to Foremost in 1950. Shortly after, Jackie met her future husband John, while she was working at the Foremost Hotel. John was driving the delivery truck; mom asked him if he needed any help unloading. Afterwards, he took her for a drive in the truck (to finish his deliveries) … and she’s been riding shotgun ever since. They were married December 15, 1953. John and Jackie lived all over S. Alberta and Saskatchewan, before finally settling down in Calgary in 1958. In 1974 John and Jackie started a small company called Arjon Construction, which they turned into a very successful gravel crushing company throughout the 80’s and 90’s. Though semi-retired, she kept active in the company until recently. In 1987 John and Jackie moved just outside of Calgary to an acreage just south of Shepard, and in 1992 they went to visit friends in Yuma, AZ, where her and John have been going every winter since. Jackie loved her gardens, to read a good book, especially out in the sun, cards, crosswords, traveling and family. Yuma will never be the same without Jackie down there on Ironwood Drive hosting “full moon” parties, pot luck dinners, desert runs with the dune buggies, and wiener roasts. She’ll be dearly missed by all her family, friends, and business acquaintances, as well as the “Red Hat Ladies” down in Yuma.

Jackie is survived by her husband John; sons, Darryl (Serena) and Darren; grandchildren, Sean, Ryan, Meagan, Jordan and Skylar; sisters, Sylvia Robinson of Victoria, BC, Betty (John) Van Staalduine of Foremost, AB, Norma (Harold) Graham of Calgary, AB, and Shirley (Charles) Buckler of Salmon Arm, BC. She was predeceased by her parents Jack and Hilda Lust; and her only brother James.

A Celebration of Jackie’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Alberta Cancer Foundation, c/o Tom Baker Cancer Centre, 1331 – 29 Street N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 4N2 Telephone: 1 (888) 412-4222. www.albertacancer.ca/memorial. The family would like to specially thank the staff of Unit 42B at the Foothills Medical Centre for the kindness and compassion they showed to Jackie and our family through the six weeks she was there.

In living memory of Jackie Wiebe, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek Chapel, 14441 BANNISTER ROAD S.E. Telephone: (403) 256-9575.

PITT – C. “Red”

PITT – C. “Red”

May 15, 1925 – November 28, 2010

It is with great sadness that the family announce the passing of our Dad and Grandfather, Red, on Sunday, November 28, 2010 at the age of 85 years.

Red was born in Blairmore, AB to Dora and Arthur Pitt, the third oldest in his family of eight children. He is survived by three daughters, Dianne (Leigh), Cathy, Shirley (Doug); three grandsons, Jeff (Anna), Clint (Thea) and Kel (Laurel); and two granddaughters, Deanne and Kari (Jeff). He also had three great-grandchildren, Amanda, Tony and Melissa. His wife Dorothy and son Jim predeceased him.

At the age of 17, “Torchy” lied about his age to join the navy in 1942. He saw a great deal while serving on an aircraft carrier and made a few very special lifelong friends. Upon his discharge in 1945 he married “Dot” and started his career as an electrician with Wilkinson Electric. He went on to own the company in 1971 and he ran it until he “wound it down” in 1992 and retired. In 1974, his dream to own a country home became a reality when he built the “Ranch” south of Water Valley. Friends and family have many wonderful memories of the good times there! The Ranch was Red’s favourite place to be. Red was driven by his desire to provide a better life for his family than the one he had growing up. He was very ambitious and very successful. He strove to pass his work ethic on to his children and grandchildren. As a young man, Red loved to fish in the Elk Valley and later his love turned to golf. Up until a few years ago, Red still went out hunting for the perfect Christmas tree to fill the large living room at the Ranch. One of his soft spots was always children, so we ask that donations be made in his memory directly to the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation, 2888 Shaganappi Trail N.W., Calgary, AB T3B 6A8, Telephone: (403) 955-8818.

A Celebration of Red’s Life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Chaplehow Branch #284 (606 – 38 Avenue N.E.) on Wednesday, December 1, 2010 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. You may forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

In living memory of Red Pitt, a tree will be planted at Big Hill Springs Park, Cochrane by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Cochrane Funeral Home, 369 RAILWAY STREET, COCHRANE. Telephone: (403) 932-4740.

HIBBERD – Kathleen “Kay” Agnes (nee Ford)

1920 – 2010

After a long, happy, and fulfilling life, Kathleen Agnes Hibberd (nee Ford) died on November 28, 2010, in Calgary, Alberta.

Kathleen was born on November 26, 1920, in Wanstead and grew up in Leytonstone, Essex. She volunteered and served with the ATS from 1939 to 1945, working in operations with the new RADAR technology. She married Raymond Hibberd in 1943 and, in 1950, immigrated to Canada with Ray and their two daughters. They spent a number of years in Quebec, and then, in 1963, moved west to Calgary. Kathleen worked for many years with the Calgary Family Service Bureau, where clients benefited from the active, practical, unselfish type of caring that her family knew so well. In her leisure time, Kathleen enjoyed oil painting, sewing, and quilting. But, flower gardening was the passion that lasted a lifetime and to which she devoted many happy hours in her retirement years.

After sixty-one years of marriage, Kathleen was predeceased by her husband, Raymond, in 2005. She is survived by daughters Barbara Hibberd of Calgary and Jennifer Fenwick (Peter) of Cape St. George, Newfoundland, six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Kathleen also valued the close relationship that she maintained over the years, through letters, telephone calls, and occasional visits, with her family in England. Even nieces and nephews born long after Kathleen left England kept her updated through letters, postcards, and, latterly, emails on their changing activities and growing families, and welcomed her enthusiastically when she was able to visit in person. She is survived by brothers Don, Ken (Grace), and Tom (Eve) – all of Loughton, Essex – as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family.
