Lloyd Vernon Parks, beloved husband of Audrey of Calgary, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at the age of 90 years.

Lloyd will be remembered for his kindness and generosity. He will be forever loved by his family. Lloyd was a long time member of Canyon Meadows Golf & Country Club and spent many enjoyable hours there, golfing with his friends, children and grandchildren.

He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 62 years, Audrey; daughter and son-in-law Patricia and John Macleod; son Larry Parks; grandsons Daniel Macleod and Michael Parks; granddaughters, Melanie Macleod, Jamie (Marcus) Teske; and great-granddaughter Kaylee Teske. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law Muriel and Bob Rogers; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and his godchildren, Steven Sanderson and Kim Lamb.

A Celebration of Lloyd’s Life will be held at Canyon Meadows Golf & Country Club (12501 – 14th Street S.W.) on Sunday, July 18, 2010 at 2:00 pm. Great-grandfather, grandfather, father, husband, choirmaster for the junior and senior choirs, organist, church elder, cubmaster, war veteran, and lover of life; this loud, boisterous, outgoing friend to all passed away quietly and peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, June 30, 2010.

Born in Wolverhampton England, Bill immigrated to Canada with the love of his life, Mavis, in 1955 bringing their young children Janet and Barry. The last survivor of a family of six brothers and sisters, Bill was predeceased by Mavis in 1997 leaving a huge hole in his life and his heart. Bill is survived by his daughters Jan Bacon and husband John; son Barry and his wife Shirley; as well as his grandchildren Patricia Loeb (Dan), Philip Bacon (Kristy), Geoff Lester (Karie-Ann), Andrew Lester (Jenn), Dave Lester, Robin Mercier (Alissa) and Suzanne Mercier; and by an astounding seven great-grandsons Peter Loeb, Morgan Loeb, Evan Lester, Cole Lester, Sean Lester, Ryan Lester and Quinn Lester; and one great-granddaughter Andrea Shepherd.

Bill devoted much of his volunteer time to Westminster United Church, now part of Living Spirit United Church and the family request that memorial tributes be sent to Living Spirit United Church (629 – 49 Avenue S.W. Calgary, AB T2S 1G6)

Anne McLeod (“Nancy”) Stead (nee McAllan), beloved wife of Mr. Samual Stead of Calgary, passed away on Wednesday, June 30, 2010, at the age of 87 years.

Anne was born in Wick, Caithness, Scotland on January 4, 1923. She met her husband Sam in Gloucester, England while serving in the British Army as a radar operator. They married in Edinburgh. In 1946, Anne immigrated to Canada as a War Bride with her baby daughter. Anne quickly adapted to life in Lethbridge and dedicated her life to her family and home. Since Sam was a square dance caller, Anne met many dear friends through the clubs they were involved with in and around Lethbridge, Radville, Saskatchewan, Fernie, B.C., and finally in Calgary where they retired. Anne’s quick wit and easy manner won her many lifelong friends.

Besides her loving husband Sam to whom she was happily married for sixty-five years, Anne is survived by her children, Margaret (Sandy) and Gordon (Rose); grandchildren, Jeffrey (Maria), Jamie, Jennifer and Kenneth (Kim). She is also survived by six great-grandchildren, Jack, Alex, Jordan, Braxton, McKayla, and Jessie.

Reg Parker, beloved husband of Elizabeth (Liz), passed away on Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at the age of 55 years.

Reg was born to Suzette and Preston Parker in Lac La Biche, AB and was raised in the community of Rich Lake. He moved to Edmonton and then on to Sherwood Park where he began a long career in Real Estate. In 1996 Reg and his family relocated to Cochrane where he continued as a Real Estate Broker and opened his own Real Estate Company. Reg was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed spending time with friends and family camping, fishing, hunting, hiking, boating, skiing and snowmobiling or just sitting by the fire. Reg will be remembered for his sense of humour, commitment to community organizations, straightforward guileless attitude, and devotion to his family.

Besides his loving wife Liz, Reg is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Michelle and her husband Gregg Wright of Kamloops and Ashley Parker of Cochrane, AB; granddaughter Alexis; his mom Suzette Parker; brother and sister-in-law Lloyd and Deana of Rochester, AB; and sister and brother-in-law Sheila and Jordan Johnston of Fort McMurray, AB. He was predeceased by his father Preston and son Leigh in 1983. He will also be greatly missed by many nieces and nephews, friends and extended family.

Jean McLaughlin passed away at the Southwood Hospice on June 29, 2010 at the age of 80 years.

Jean was born on January 13, 1930 in Rumsey Alberta. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, was a great cook and loved entertaining; she also enjoyed traveling.

Jean is survived by her daughter Linda (Wayne) Jefferson of Moose Jaw, SK, two sons Ken of Canmore, AB and Robert “Keith” of Hussar, AB. She will also be remembered by her six grandchildren Mike, Tara, Julie, Jordan, Hunter and Wyatt and two great grandchildren Chase and Alexis. Jean was predeceased by her parents Hans and Mabel, sisters, Ruth and Marie, brothers Jack, Ed and twin brother Jim.

Teresa Cecilia Axelson, died on Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at the Rockyview Hospital in Calgary.

Teresa was born on March 30, 1930 in Pincher Creek, AB, the only daughter in a family of eight, of John and Carla Schauerte. She moved to Calgary in 1948 where she attended nursing school at the Holy Cross Hospital. She continued nursing until 1975. In 1951 she married Arnold Axelson and over the next twelve years they had nine children. Teresa was an incredible artist; from her sewing talents, to leather work, knitting and crocheting, and her gardening. But, her greatest artistic achievements were her artwork and quilting. In 1988, Teresa designed and made a beautiful hanging quilt to commemorate the Calgary Olympics. Over the years, she had won many awards for her art at the Calgary Stampede. To celebrate the millennium, Teresa made each of her fifteen grandchildren a quilt. This feat took her a little over 18 months to accomplish. Creating one of a kind quilts was a great source of pride for Teresa and she enjoyed her quilting right up until she went into the hospital in February of 2010.

Left to mourn her loss are her husband of 59 years, Arnold; daughter-in-law Judy Axelson; daughters Sonja Axelson, Elaine Palko, Sheila (Stuart) Tutty, Denise (Dave) Shkuratoff, Cheryl (Bruce) Roy; son Shane (Sandra); daughters Marilyn Axelson, Ann (Steve) Recsky; fifteen grandchildren: Luke Hardy; Damon, Alyse and Megan Palko; Rhiannon Oliver and Brendan Tutty; Peter, Brenda and Brent Shkuratoff; Matthew and Justin Roy; Michelle and Anders Axelson; Alaina and Bradford Recsky; four great grandchildren: Graycen, Benjamen and Tesslin Oliver; Emerson Hardy; six brothers: Emil, Joseph (Jean), Otto ‘Happy’, Paul (Arlene), Lawrence (Joan) and Walter (Jane), and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ben Leblanc passed away suddenly on Tuesday, July 29, 2010 at the age of 25 years.

Ben was devoted to his family and many friends. He loved the outdoors, fishing, quadding and doing his carpentry work. Ben was a big teddy bear who was gentle, big hearted, caring, giving and loved children. He loved and lived life to the fullest. His sense of humour will be greatly missed; he always left us with a smile.

Ben is survived by his parents Terry and Tanis, brother Joey, and numerous family members.

Vincent “Vince” George Thompson beloved husband of Michelle of Calgary, passed away suddenly on Monday, June 28, 2010 at the age of 47 years.

Vince was born and raised in Oliver, BC and moved with his family to Calgary in 1998. Vince worked in the insulated glass industry for close to thirty years and became a master in his craft. He was a kind, jovial and gentle spirit who will be remembered for his quick wit and his love of practical jokes.

Besides his loving wife Michelle of twenty-four years, Vince is survived by four children, Brianne, Chelsea, Carter, and Rylan; parents, Robert (Francine) and Joan (Jim); step-father Grant (Judy); step-mother, Lynne; brother Danny “Boone” (Connie); sisters, Tammy and Alicia ( Cyril); and step-brother Jim (Janet). Vince was predeceased by his daughter Alyssa in 2003, as well as both sets of grandparents.
