Maggie Watz of Calgary passed away peacefully at the age of 96 years with her family by her side.
Maggie was born to Theodore and Marian Laturnus in Val Marie, Saskatchewan. The family later moved to Alberta where she met her husband, Martin Watz. The couple farmed in the Warburg area until they retired to Edmonton in 1969 before moving to Calgary in 2004.
Maggie is survived by her sons, Emery (Carol) Watz of Calgary, AB. and Kenneth (Carole) Watz of Qualicum Beach, BC; two brothers; five sisters; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Martin; three brothers and two sisters.
A special thank you to the staff at Bowview Manor for their kindness and care during her final years.

Bob Coll passed away peacefully on September 30, 2009 at the age of 84, after a lengthy illness.
He is survived by Dorothy, his loving wife of fifty-seven years; daughter Cathie (Denny); three sons, Bill, Bob Jr. and David (Linda); grandchildren, Falon, Dylan and Austin; and a sister Margaret. He was predeceased by brother William (killed in action during WWII) and sister Patricia.
Bob was born in Winnipeg. He enlisted in the army in 1942, saw action in Italy and participated in the Allied liberation of Holland. Bob married Dorothy Fernie on October 3, 1952 in Calgary. A career soldier and officer, he also served in Korea (as an observer of the United Nations’ peacekeeping efforts), Germany and Ontario, before settling in Calgary in 1967. As an officer, he trained soldiers at Currie and Harvie Barracks and retired with rank of Major in 1973. Upon “retirement”, he enjoyed a second career with the City of Calgary.
Bob’s hobbies included carpentry, stamp collecting and Canadian WWII history, but he loved his family most of all. He had a wonderful sense of humour and loved to make people laugh. He will be dearly missed.

John Westlake, beloved husband of Agnes Westlake of Calgary, passed away on Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at the age of 83 years.
Besides his loving wife of sixty years, John is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Leslie Westlake; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Blaine Gregory; grandchildren, Alyssa, Krysten, Joce, and Ryan. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Jensina Westlake and his sister Winnifred Woods.

Willy Tchir of Calgary passed away suddenly on Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at the age of 63 years.
Willy is survived by her children Tara Tchir of London, ON and Chris Tchir of Calgary; her partner Ron Hellard; four brothers, Charlie (Shirley), Martin (Leslie), Joseph (Donna), and Herman; four sisters, Marie (Chuck) Napier, Nellie Hodgkinson, Joan (Mark), and Sylvia and their families. After surviving lung cancer for fourteen years, Jason lost the battle through heart failure at the age of 66. He fought his best fight.
Jason was a true “renaissance man”. He lived life as a cowboy, athlete, avid golfer, accomplished writer, respected businessman, and a fast driver. Above all, he treasured time with his family.
Sadly mourning his loss is his loving wife Connie; daughters, Deborah Meechan and Laurelei Jason; grandchildren, Jordan (Amanda) Meechan, Dree Meechan and Janielle Jason; great-grandson Kale Meechan; and nine siblings. Jason was predeceased by his son Justin Jarrod Jason; his parents Peter and Margaret; and six siblings.

Mr. Francesco Lavorato beloved husband of Maddalena, passed away on Monday, September 28, 2009 at the Rockyview Hospital at the age of 85 years. He was surrounded by his family.
Francesco was born in San Martino di Finita, Italy and moved to Calgary on November 6, 1959 to fulfill his dreams of creating a better life for him and his family. He loved being around his family and spending time outdoors in his garden, as well as fishing and hunting.
Francesco is survived by his loving wife Maddalena; his son Nicola (Ida) Lavorato; daughter Mirella (Bruno) Milos; his grandchildren, Maddalena (Chris) Fry, Francesco, Claudia, Antonio and Davide. He is also survived by his two sisters, Natalina and Rosa (Gennaro), and sister in-law Sistina Lavorato, all of Italy. He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Luciano Elmiro, also of Italy.

Jan Derwich passed away on Monday, September 28, 2009 at the age of 82 years.
Jan was born in Suchorzew, Poland. In 1953 he married Margarete in Poland and then emigrated from Germany in 1966 to come to Calgary. Jan worked in the steel industry for most of his life. His biggest passion in life was his family and building his cabin on the Kootenay Lake in British Columbia.
Besides his loving wife Margarete, Jan is survived by his children, Barbara, Ingrid (Jerzy) Swiatkiewicz, Elisabeth (Phillip) Gregory; grandchildren, Kyle and Robert; brother Edmund; sister Ola of Poland; and numerous relatives in Poland and Germany.
