Clarke, Linda D. (nee Stracey)

Linda D. Clarke passed away at the Agape Hospice on Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at the age of 60 years. Linda was born on June 19, 1948 in Esterhazy, SK. She met Robert Clarke in Regina, SK and moved to Calgary in 1967, and they were married in 1968. It was here that they raised three daughters and Linda kept busy running the local preschool and volunteering for various school activities, census taking, and election services. Linda also worked for KPMG as a receptionist for several years. In 1988 they moved the family to Lethbridge, where Linda continued to work for KPMG. In 1993 they moved again, to Sherwood Park, where Linda started work as a receptionist with ATB Financial. She continued work with ATB after returning to Calgary in 1995. Through the years Linda became known for her generous nature, baking and cooking skills, and never ending talent for crafts and floral arrangements. Her greatest joy was spending time with her six grandchildren. Linda is survived by her mother Doris; husband Robert; her three daughters and sons-in-law, Stracey and Brent of Red Deer, Tara and Paul of Airdrie, and Brandi and Mike of Calgary; her sister Diane and her brother Barry. She also is lovingly remembered by her six grandchildren, Benjamin, Caleb, Jarrett, Evan, McLean, and Alexandra. Teodora Y. Zablan of Calgary passed away on Thursday, January 29, 2009 at the age of 95 years.

She was born in the Philippines on July 24, 1913. Teodora is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Helen and Renato (Rey) Lansang, Florence and Raul (Oyie) Josue and, Josephine (Gigi) and Geoff Heiland; six grandchildren, Judith (Rodney), Jerome (Liezl), Ryan, Faye, Dexter, and Michael; and six great-grandsons, Cameron, Jacob, Josiah, Antonio, Dominico, and Phoenix, all of Calgary. She was predeceased by her husband Jesus on March 26, 2005.

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Doug, our pillar of strength, at the age of 64 years.

The oldest of four siblings, Doug was born in Calgary and raised in Cold Lake, Alberta. Doug followed his father into the trucking industry and worked four decades moving families throughout North America, an event characterized as one of the most traumatic in people’s lives. At the time of his retirement last year due to his declining health, Doug was AMJ Campbell Van Lines’ (Atlas) longest tenured owner-operator. Doug was also their most requested mover and enjoyed repeat relationships that spanned decades. Doug consistently swept the top honours in his field and was recently awarded the third diamond in a ring reflecting his many years of safe driving in the United States. Doug’s loyalty and passion for helping people in need assisted many through difficult periods in their lives from both a personal and professional perspective. Doug was a passionate Flames and Stampeders fan. He was also a longstanding member of the Royal Canadian Legion 264 Branch. In addition, Doug sponsored many children over the years through World Vision. He will be sadly missed by his many friends and extended family.

Doug is survived by his siblings, Don Buchan (Darlene) of St. Catharine’s ON, Jacky Chirico of Edmonton, AB, Shirley Denny (Lee) of Fort McMurray, AB and his many nieces and nephews (and their children). He was predeceased by his parents, Sadie and Clarence Buchan of Cold Lake.

Lou Costella, beloved wife of the late William (Bill) Costella, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2009 at the age of 94 years.

Lou was born July 26, 1914 in a small one room home in Domremy, Saskatchewan. She married Bill on April 10, 1940 and was a devoted homemaker. Lou lived a full and active life with Bill; they loved to square dance, play cards and travel in their RV. She dedicated her life to the care of her family.

Lou is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Dwaine and Joan, and Paul and Gail; four grandchildren, Todd (Deanna), Murray (Shannon), Keegan, and Larissa; and two great granddaughters, Amelia and Sadie. She is also survived by her sisters, Clara Nosek, Leona Adams and Francis Cooper as well as many nieces and nephews.

Gale, beloved husband of 49 years to Joan has played his last tennis at CWC. He will live on through his son Dan (Pat); daughter Kathy (Ferdie); grandsons Greg, Trevor and Brian and twin granddaughters Erika and Nicole. He will also be missed by sisters Vivian Oakes, Hazel Williamson and Doris Carle; brother Vern; Joan’s brother Jim (Marlene) Ferguson; many nephews and nieces as well as friends and former colleagues at Amoco, Dome Petroleum, GSC and Petro-Canada. After defeating prostate cancer diagnosed in 2003, his nemesis was pancreatic cancer diagnosed one year ago. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Enrichetta Civitarese, on Wednesday, January 28, 2009.

She was born on February 5, 1914 in Miglianico (Chieti) Abruzzo, Italy.

Left behind to mourn are her four children, Filomena (Romano) De Iure, Aldo Civitarese, Yolanda (Luciano) Saraceni, and Luciana (Benito) Colonna; nine grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; a sister Rosalinda Marcucci of Calgary; a brother-in-law Tommaso (Gilda) Civitarese; numerous nieces and nephews in Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario, and Italy. She was predeceased by her husband Domenico in September 2, 2006.

A life of faithful service is at long last rewarded for the promise of paradise.

Dart (nee Balmforth), Elsie May

It is with great sadness that we announce that Elsie May Dart passed away on Saturday, January 24, 2009 at the age of 87 years after a short but heroic battle with cancer.

Born in Hanna, AB, Elsie lived most of her years in the Drumheller area. After completing high school in Drumheller, she spent time studying to become a nurse in Edmonton. She then returned to Drumheller where she worked for a number of years for Dr. Kinderchuk. She married John Dart in 1949. The couple enjoyed many years farming land near the town of Rosedale, where they raised their son Rick. During this time, Elsie was an active member of the Verdant Valley Home and School Association. John and Elsie moved to Drumheller in the early 1970s, where she remained for the rest of her life. With a keen sense of humour and a genuine interest in all types of people, Elsie was a welcome presence at all social gatherings. Her interests included following current events, doing crossword puzzles, and learning about new cultures. She was admired for her ability to adapt to change and for the way she accepted and respected all people.

Elsie is survived by her daughter-in-law Pam Dart (nee Ball); granddaughters, Bre-Ann and Christie; nephew Don Dart (Adrienne); niece Margaret Boldt; and the Torfason, Ball, and Boyer families; as well as by numerous extended family members and friends. Elsie was predeceased by her parents, Bill and Anna Balmforth; sisters Edna Torfason and Marion McLay; husband John Dart; and son Rick Dart.

It is with great love and sadness that we announce the passing of our mom on Tuesday, January 27, 2009, from a courageous battle with lung cancer at the age of 75 years.

She was predeceased by Roy (Clara) Roper, Jack Cowan, Stan McKenzie, Bill Waite, Jack Roper, and husbands, Harvey Anderson and Bruce Davison.

Betty handled her battle with great dignity and strength. With her social and open heart, Betty touched many people in the communities that she lived in, the latest being in High River. She naturally and effortlessly brought people together with her great sense of humor and fun loving nature. She was a constant inspiration to the many clubs and social activities that she founded, or was a member of.
