Wilma Alice Stencel (nee Hunt) of Calgary passed away on Saturday, August 30, 2008 at the age of 81 years.
Wilma was born on June 6, 1927 in Coaldale, AB. She grew up on a farm in Iron Springs, AB near Lethbridge. Wilma was a Christian and attended church throughout her lifetime. In the spring of 1958, she married Carl Leo Stencel. They became business entrepreneurs, investing in real estate. After her loved husband passed away, being blessed by God, she gave herself to her family and friends. Wilma found joy in helping people and was a very giving and an unselfish person.
Wilma is survived by her sisters and brother-in-law, Robert and Jean Wright of Innisfail, AB, Mary Bittner, and Joyce Harvey; nieces and nephews, Nora (Bill) Niddrie, Elaine (Dean) Knorr, Bill Wright, Ian Wright, Russell (Vicky) Harvey, Glen (Jovita) Harvey, and Kevin (Cheryl) Harvey.
Funeral Services will be held at Renfrew Baptist Church (1204 Renfrew Drive N.E.) on Wednesday, September 3, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. Family Graveside Service will be held at Queen’s Park Cemetery. It is with profound sadness that the family of Leon Richard Melanson announce his passing on Friday, August 29, 2008 after a courageous and lengthy battle with lung disease.
Leon was born in Sackville, New Brunswick and it was there he met his wife Jeannine and they started their family. In 1965 they moved to Ontario and Leon continued his work as a conductor on the railroad. After thirty-five years of service, Leon retired and moved to Calgary, Alberta to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Leon worked for Borger Construction from 1990 to 1995. Leon and Jeannine started living their dream in 1994 when they began travelling throughout the U.S. and Canada, spending the next ten years living full time in their R.V.
He leaves to mourn his loving wife of fifty-two years Jeannine Lorraine Melanson (Cormier), his daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Robert Borger of Calgary; his son and daughter-in-law Jeffrey and Linda Melanson of Jasper; five grandchildren, Tyler, Kirk and Amber Borger and Carly and Dayna Melanson; nine brothers and sisters, Ada (Hal) Ramsay, Anne Kent, Kathleen (Joseph) Estabrooks, Marguerite (Elbert) White, Ernest (Barbara) Melanson, Evelyn (George) Ayer, Marion Locy, Malcolm (Rose) Melanson and David Melanson; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Robert Douglas Young passed away peacefully at Carewest Sarcee on Thursday, August 28, 2008 at the age of 97 years.
Doug was born on July 15, 1911 in Alsask, SK. Doug and his wife Ruth spent most of their life residing in Kimberley, BC, Comox, BC and the last ten years in Calgary.
Doug is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Bob Muir of Calgary; four grandchildren, Tracy and Neil Bantleman of Singapore, Todd and Thanh Muir of Whitecourt, AB, Rob and Jen Young of Vancouver, BC, Fred Young of Vancouver, BC; three great-grandchildren, Kasey, Tazer and Kiara; sister-in-law Helen Young; as well as by numerous nieces and nephews. Doug was predeceased by his loving wife Ruth; son Bob, daughter-in-law Jean and brother Pat.

Winifred (Tee) passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness at the Glenmore Beverly Care Centre on Saturday, August 23, 2008 at the age of 94 years.
Winifred was born to Alec and Genevieve Ballachey on December 1, 1912. She was raised in High River, AB with her six siblings where she enjoyed a loving and healthy upbringing. Prior to World War II, Tee married Jack Balfour and moved to Calgary to raise her family.
Winifred was a loving mother and wife but still managed to be an active volunteer with the Junior League and other charities. Tee was always giving of herself and was happiest doing so. Being a life master bridge player, Tee enjoyed a good game of cards and loved to entertain.
Tee is survived by her sons, Doug (Donna) of Whiterock, BC and their children Craig and Dana; Alec (Penny) and grandsons Liam and Cale, Robert (Janet); granddaughter Kerry; daughter Mary and grandson Alec; Frank’s (Francis) children Joey, Travis, Midori and Genevieve. Tee is also survived by her brother John M. Ballachey (Isamay) and four great-grandchildren Teigan, Taya (Craig); Paige and Joshua (Dana). She was predeceased by her beloved husband, John D. “Jack” Balfour in 1996 and her son Francis David Balfour in 2001.
Tee will be greatly missed by those whose lives she touched and we will cherish her memory.
The family will have a private service for Tee. A reception in loving memory of Winifred will be held at the Calgary Golf and Country Club 50th Avenue and Elbow Drive S.W. on Friday, September 5th, 2008 from 3:00p.m. to 5:00p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. Hazel (Loy) Eloise Walker passed away on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at the age of 90 years.
Loy was born in Vulcan, AB. She moved to Calgary at very early age and lived here all of her life. She retired from Alberta Hail and Crop Insurance Board in the early 1980’s. Loy loved life and enjoyed visiting with her family and friends.
Loy leaves behind her daughter Debbie; three granddaughters, Stephanie and Kristy Gordon, and Cindy Holdershaw; one grandson Bill Holdershaw; and three great grandchildren. She also leaves behind her beloved sister Ellen Moyer of Phoenix, Arizona and numerous nieces and nephews. Loy was predeceased by her son Norman R. Holdershaw in 1992 and her husband Jim in 1995.
Loy will be lovingly missed by all.

Bill died suddenly in a car accident. He is survived by his wife of 51 years Marguerite Alberta Belle (nee Watt); his children Laureen Rama, Delia Cyr (Darrell), Robert Rama (Stacy); grandchildren, Karah and Nigel Cyr, Jocelyn and Dylan Rama and their mother Kathy McNish; Riley (Stacy’s daughter); and his brother Kauko Leslie all of Calgary; his sister Doris Demers of California and family; brother John Rama (Les-Anne) of Ottawa, ON and family; sister-in-law Dorothy Edwards of Surrey, BC and family; sister-in-law Marilyn (Raymond) Kowalski of Sylvan Lake, AB and family; brother-in-law Daniel Watt (Linda) of Windsor, ON and family; sister-in-law Stella Watt of Langley, BC and family; cousins, Joan Koivuneva and family, Jean Plamondon and family; as well as many relatives in Finland.
Born in Goose Lake, AB of Bertha Maria Carlson and Matti Johan Rama, Bill was a proud chemical engineer from the University of Alberta, attending his 50th class reunion in 2006, and a lifetime member of APEGGA. He worked for Pacific Petroleum in Fort St. John and Dawson Creek, BC and in Burstall, SK, then worked for Mobil Oil for 27 years in Alberta, Nova Scotia and Indonesia. He loved the time he spent in Indonesia and Nova Scotia and worked on some of the worlds largest and most important projects (Arun, Venture). He represented industry as Chairman of the Offshore Operator’s Division of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers. He was a respected expert in natural gas processing and taught courses on the subject for many years. He retired from the Oil business and took up a second career in alternative dispute resolution. He became a Chartered Arbitrator and organized and taught Arbitration courses for the Alberta Arbitration and Mediation Society (AAMS).
Bill was a kind, gentle, funny Grandpa who was smart and always considerate and thoughtful. Many loved him as their goofy Uncle Bill who always listened and made them smile. Inquisitive and wanting to learn, he was constantly searching for a better understanding of the world with his spontaneous sense of adventure. He kept in touch with his Finnish relatives and many a grandchild will always remember the traditional pulla bread at Easter and Christmas. A loving and devoted husband who adored his wife, Bill enjoyed traveling to new places, curling, skiing, golfing, reading and playing bridge. A loyal friend, staying in touch with his University ski buddies, he also had a wide network of friends through his work with the Alberta Arbitration and Mediation Society, and his participation in Mobil Oil retirees’ activities. All are welcome to a celebration of Bill’s life to be held Saturday, September 13, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at the Silver Springs Community Hall, (5720 Silver Ridge Drive N.W., Calgary). It is with heavy hearts that the family of Fiona Kaczowka of Calgary announces her peaceful passing on August 26, 2008 at the Sarcee Hospice at the age of 51.
Fiona grew-up with a love for horses, cars and travel. After earning degrees from Edinburgh and Sterling Universities, Fiona immigrated to Canada in 1982 to work as a Chartered Accountant with the Provincial Auditors of Saskatchewan. In 1985 she married Rick and moved to Nipawin, Saskatchewan working for the office of Armstrong and Neumann and starting her family. In 1989, her young family settled in Calgary, to work in her own private practice and with the firm of Robert Campbell C.A. She enjoyed skiing, gardening, reading, curling, traveling, as well as watching and supporting her daughters. With her passing she leaves behind her loving husband Rick, daughters Caitlin and Adelle; her brother David (Pat) Currie; mother-in-law Regina, brother-in-laws Mike (Gail) and Phil Kaczowka and cousins Helen (Marty) Dahl, Lance (Fern) Dyer and Henri (Laura) Golczyk. Also mourning her loss are numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends through-out Canada and Scotland. Born in St. Andrews, Fife, Scotland.
