Rosa Arienzale of Calgary passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 29, 2006 at the age of 85 years.
Rosa was born on July 16, 1921 in Sepino, Italy. She married Antonio on December 28, 1948. Rosa immigrated to Calgary in 1956 with her three young sons to join her husband, Antonio. Together they were determined to make a better life for their family. Rosa’s favorite pastime was working in her vegetable garden, canning, and tending to her numerous flower beds. Carnations were her favorite flowers. She enjoyed heading out to the mountains and the Okanagan with Antonio in their ‘camperized’ van. They were married for forty-nine very happy years before Antonio passed away in 1998. Rosa’s happiest moments were spent in the company of her family whom she loved very much. Rosa will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, John and Barb, Pasquale and Debbie, Nino and Gail, and Jerry and Luisa; ten grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Vittoria Pietraroia of Montreal and Giovannina Dinardo of Calgary; a brother and three sisters-in-law, Donato and Elisabetta Pietraroia of Calgary, Maria Pietraroia of Australia and Guisapina Rucci of Belgium.

It is with great sadness that the Cooper family must announce the peaceful passing of Angela Cooper on Sunday, October 29, 2006 after a brief illness at the age of 75 years.
Angela was a strong, determined fun-loving lady who was quick to laugh and share a good joke. Love of her family had always been her priority.
Angela is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Tom and Dorothy; her daughter and son-in-law Trish and Bruce Fraser; her two beloved grandchildren, Ayla and Jenna Fraser; her best friend of seventy years Diane Brown; her Calgary cousins, Don and Christine Patton; as well as her large extended family throughout North America. Frederick Law Wilkin of Cochrane passed away on Thursday, October 26, 2006 at the age of 81 years.
Fred was born on October 16, 1925 in Calgary, AB and worked for Shell Canada for many years as a professional engineer. He and his loving wife of 43 years, Dorothy Marion (Hayhurst) Wilkin, retired to Oyama, BC in 1986 where they lived until Dorothy’s passing in 1996. Fred returned to family in Calgary and became active in the Kerby Centre enjoying many travels with the Kerby Globetrotters. He loved vacationing and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Fred is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law Linda and Doug Hoffman, of St. Albert, AB, and Laura and Ron MacDonald of Cochrane; son and daughter-in-law Jim and Jill Wilkin of Sherwood Park, AB; eleven grandchildren, Jessica (Bill) Tillapaugh, Kim (Keith) Gibbons, Amanda (Kevin) Read, Paul (Susan) MacDonald, Brad MacDonald, Amy MacDonald, Christy Wilkin, Timothy Wilkin, Daniel Wilkin, Kyle Wilkin and Curtis Wilkin. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Brittany and Tyler Tillapaugh, Madeline Gibbons and Cora Wilkin. Fred was predeceased by his brothers James Wilkin and Donald Wilkin; and his sister Helen Cannon.

John Hackman of Airdrie, passed away on Sunday, October 29, 2006 at the age of 82 years.
John was born on May 2, 1924 in Calgary. He served with the RAF 158th Squadron during WWII. He was shot down on a bombing mission over Germany and was captured where he remained a POW for the balance of the War. John returned to Calgary after being Liberated and worked for the City of Calgary for a short time before reenlisting in the RCAF. He then served for another twenty-five years. John retired from the Airforce in 1968, and then began to work for Correctional Services in Brampton, ON. Upon full retirement he returned to the West and settled in Airdrie.
John is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Nida Hackman of Airdrie; his grandchildren, Tanya Hilts (Rod) of Barrie, ON, Mika Norell (Erin), Lenny Hackman, and Maryellen Hackman all of Airdrie; as well as three great-grandchildren, Isys Norell, Elizabeth Hilts and Freyja Norell. It is with the deepest of sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Karl. He passed away in his home after a long and courageous battle with cancer on Sunday, October 29, 2006 at the age of sixty-nine years with his family by his side.
Karl leaves behind his wife of four years, Lois, and her children and grandchildren; his children Erika (Kevin) Kuhlwein, Melena, Sonya (Tony) Krulc, Carla (Badi) Meshkati, David and Nancy; along with four grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Peter and wife Kaliopi and his niece Jani (Calgary), and sister Ela (Slovenia). Karl was predeceased by his beloved wife Agata (Agie), of thirty-four years, and his brothers Tine, Janez, and sister Maria (Slovenia). Karl was a dedicated and loving husband, father, and provider. He will be remembered for his devotion to God, his serving attitude, generosity, hard work, his ethics and his genuine down-to-earth hospitality. Friends, brethren and peers will share in his families sorrow.

Charles Robert Darwent, born May 12, 1936 in Portsmouth, England, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, October 28, 2006 at the age of 70 years.
An avid traveller with an adventurous spirit, Charles left England and home at the tender age of 19, joining the British Army and serving a tour in Malaysia. He returned to England and subsequently left for Trinidad with his young wife and children in 1965. He immigrated to Canada in 1969, and pursued various careers before continuing his law studies and becoming a well respected lawyer in the Calgary area. He retired from law in 2001, and passionately developed The METTA Foundation to assist HIV/AIDS orphans in Bangkok, Thailand.
Charles, better known as Charlie Weed or Bob, will be lovingly missed by friends and family in England, Canada and Thailand; the places he lived and considered home. He will be missed by his loving and devoted wife, Roxanne; siblings, John, Francis, and Elizabeth of England; his children and their spouses, Jimmy and Sue, Alison, Natalie and Ross, Robert, Tacita and Rebecca; grandchildren, Hanna, Christopher, Peter, Alexandra, Katrina and Daniel; and nephew, Darren. He is also missed by in-laws, Eric, Angela, Jacqueline and Candace.

Jose “Albert” Rodrigues, beloved husband of Linda Rodrigues of Calgary, passed away on Sunday, October 29, 2006 at the age of 90 years.
Albert was born on December 7, 1915 in Georgetown, Guyana. After graduating from high school, he continued his education and held a long career in accounting. Albert married Linda on October 14, 1937 and together they had nine children. He was a long-time member of St. Vincent de Paul Society of Guyana, spanning forty-five years. He was also a member of the Guild of the Blessed Sacrament in Guyana. Albert spent many happy vacations in the Dominican Republic with his daughter Mary Ann and her husband José. When he was sixty-one, Albert and Linda decided it was time for a change and immigrated to Canada. Albert had a passion for crosswords and a special weakness for chocolates.
Besides his loving wife Linda, Albert is survived by nine children and their spouses, Julian and Joy of Toronto, ON, Albert and Joan of Guyana, Mary Ann and José of the Dominican Republic, Bernard and Jacinta of Sherwood Park, AB, Anita and Ronald of Calgary, Marguerite and Aubrey of Sherwood Park, Stephen and Janet, Adele and Ben, Gerry and Cheryl, all of Calgary; twenty-four grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law Marie DeFreitas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

John Gregory Briggs, devoted husband of Carrie Nermo and loving father of Colin of Calgary, passed away suddenly in Kelowna, on Friday, October 27, 2006.
Born in Montreal on July 7, John moved to Calgary in 1988 and was employed in the construction industry for many years. Fate brought John and Carrie together in Calgary and they eventually married in 1999.
John is survived by his loving wife Carrie and son Colin; his mother Joan Briggs; brothers and sisters-in-law, Gary and Pat Briggs, Mark and Brenda Briggs and Bob and Lori Briggs. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, Amanda, Stephen, Jennifer, Geoffrey, Jesse and Cody; as well as many dear friends. John was predeceased by his father Barry Briggs on July 15, 1987.

Wallis Humfrey, beloved husband of Evelyn, father of Keith, grandfather of Kim, Kevin and Kelsey, ended his life journey peacefully on Saturday, October 28, 2006 at the age of 87 years.
Wally was born on the De La Hay farm near Abbey, SK, the only son of Frank and Mary Humfrey. He moved to Calgary in the spring of 1939 and worked as a machinist at Precision Machine Shop. In 1950, he and his partner started a business and after 45 years in his trade, he retired to Kelowna, BC. Former Owner of Allied Machinists, pioneer skier, coach and aspiring wood carver, Wally touched the lives of many young people in business and his winter passion – leading the lines of Nancy Greene Ski Leaguers down the slopes of mountain resorts. Wally continued to thrive and created a large display of wood carved birds; a new passion that kept him travelling and meeting new friends, collecting many ribbons and honours along the way.
