Elva Grossi of Calgary, passed away peacefully with all her family by her side, on Monday, January 30, 2006 at the age of 77 years.

Elva was born on June 7, 1928 in Villalago, L’Aquila Italy. She was a loving mother and grandmother whose life revolved around her family. Elva was caring and generous, opening her home to her friends and strangers. Anyone who knew Elva will remember her outgoing, lively personality. She was predeceased by her parents Carmela Colangeli and Domenico Grossi; husband Dino Grossi, her brother Filiberto Grossi; sisters Maria Panattoni and Rosina Costantini and her nephew Carmelo Grossi. She is survived by her son Domenic Grossi (Antonia); and their children Laura, Alessandra and Rita; daughter Anna Murchison (Glenn), and their children Sam Fusaro, Amanda Fusaro and Carla; also her great-grandson Noah; sister-in-law Lina Grossi and nephews Leo and Roger Grossi and their families; her sister-in-law Dora and family; brothers-in-law Dario and family all of Italy, Antonio and family in Australia; nephews Fernando and Sandy Panattoni and their families.

It is with great sadness that Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Asiedu of Calgary, the Ayah family of Akwatia, Ghana and the Ghanaian Canadian Association of Calgary announce the sudden passing of Grace Carol Esamboye on Thursday, January 19, 2006.

Grace is survived by her mother Mary (Ena) Ayah of Ghana; daughter and son-in-law Mariam and Lawrence Asiedu; and three grandchildren, Ena (Nadia), Michael and Sarah. She is also survived by four brothers, Bazie Francis Kwame of Italy, Bazie (Martin) Ayah of Germany, Rapheal Esamboye of England and Kwaku Esamboye of Ghana; and three sisters, Catherine Esamboye of Ghana, Beatrice Ayah of Gambia and Helena Esamboye of Ghana. She was predeceased by her father; and two sisters.

Helen Oline Lonvik of Calgary, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 29, 2006 after a courageous struggle with cancer at the age of 75 years.

Helen was born on November 14, 1930 in Calgary, and was proud to be a native Calgarian. She was a graduate of University of Alberta and University of Calgary, and was a high school teacher through most of her life. She was later active on the Alumni Association and the Senate at the University of Calgary. Helen enjoyed travelling and playing the stock market. She will be lovingly remembered by her seven nieces and nephews, Carolyn Stone; Susan Stone and Glenn Hebron, Joseph and Tamara Stone, Barbara Benson, Gordon Lonie, Lori and Edward DeWitt and Lance Lonvik, as well as many great nieces and nephews.

Kit Jing Kwok went to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 28, 2006 at the age of 83 years.

Kit was born and raised in Chiu Kwan, China. After graduating from Chiu Kwan Teachers Training College, she assisted her father in their family business. She met and married her husband, Ping Kee of sixty years in Canton. Together they established their family and successful business in Hong Kong. They immigrated to Canada in 1980 and lived in Vancouver, Toronto, and finally settled in Calgary in 1993, and it was here that Kit Jing was baptised. Her greatest achievement in life was raising godly and well-educated children and grandchildren. Kit loved life, Chinese Literature, calligraphy, traveling, sewing, cooking, and being with family and friends.

Kit Jing is survived by her husband, Ping Kee; their children Frances (Leon) of New York, Mary (Alain) of Toronto, Yvonne (Pak Keong) of Calgary, Sunny (Rita) of Toronto, and Edmund (Fior) of Hong Kong; and eleven grandchildren, Clement, Jeremy, Melanie, Justin, Arthur, Andrew, Amanda, Chantelle, Jasmine, Sherlotte, and Long Long. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and much beloved extended family. Kit was predeceased by her son, Chiu-yee.

Sorenson, Clifford (Cliff) James

Clifford James Sorenson, beloved husband of Gwendolyn Marie of fifty-three years who was at his side as she has been everyday for the last month of his life, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 30, 2006 after a twelve year battle with cancer at the age of 76 years.

Clifford was born on November 14, 1929 in Avonlea, SK. He spent his life in Western Canada where work took him to locations throughout the Prairie Provinces. He met and married his wife Gwen in Regina, SK and they shared a most wonderful fifty-three years together while raising their five children. Cliff loved to curl, golf, and tinker with things in the garage or spend quiet time doing jigsaw puzzles. All of his life he had a special love of animals from his horse Star to his many pet dogs. He rarely missed a good baseball game something he loved from his younger years when he played semi pro ball. Cliff was a devoted husband and father never neglecting a special event, birthday or occasion. He was a friend to many and was always positive preferring to see the best side of anything. A good listener and never one to judge he will be sadly missed but fondly remembered in many ways.

Besides his loving wife Cliff is survived by his five children and their spouses, James Gordon and Jayda of Calgary, Don and Darcy of Edmonton, Shelley Marie and Rudy of Edmonton, Judy Lynn of Calgary, and Gary Clifford of Victoria; eleven grandchildren, David, Danielle, Tala, Shivon, Kerstyn, Nicole, Jacqueline, Thomas, Christopher, Chantal, and Stephanie; as well as his brother and sister-in-law Harvey and Margaret of Vancouver. Cliff was predeceased by his father Thomas in 1993 and his mother Pearl in 1994.

OLMSTEAD – Theresa Marie (nee Laurendeau)

1915 – 2006

Theresa Olmstead, beloved wife of Glen, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, after a short illness at the age of 90 years.

Theresa was born, raised, and lived in Calgary all her life. She was a member of the Catholic Women’s League since 1949 and spent over 50 years with the St. Pius X Church’s CWL and St. Rita’s Group. Theresa was actively involved in Girl Guides as both a Brownie, Girl Guide leader and District Girl Guide Commissioner. She was a special person to all those who knew her and “Grandma”to the young and not so young alike. She touched them with her love and compassion. Theresa loved life, traveling, sewing, painting, crafts and being with family and friends.

Theresa is survived by Glen, her loving and devoted husband of 64 years. She will be greatly missed by her children, Leigh, Sharon (Steve), Brian (Sheryl), Kevin (Nancy), Kathy (Ken); grandchildren, Jason and Corey, Deanne (Ken), Shelley (Pat) and Sean, Chris and Dave (Natasha), Allison and Erica, Christopher and Kelly; great grandchildren, Amanda and Eric, Taylor and Mason, Stephanie and Ryan. Theresa also leaves behind her sister, Marguerite Christensen and many nieces and nephews.

Donald Lawrence Freed, beloved husband of Grace Freed of eighteen years of Calgary, passed away on Sunday, January 29, 2006 at the age of 88 years.

Donald was born September 12, 1917 in Orion, AB, the youngest of four children born to Mary and Abner Freed. He spent his entire youth in Glassford. He married Mary Zowtiak in 1945, who predeceased him in 1984. Donald started buying grain for the Alberta Wheat Pool in 1949 in Orion and enjoyed his career until his retirement in 1983. He was the first Manager-Curator of the Grain Academy.

Besides his wife Grace of eighteen years, Don is survived by his family Judy and Allan Hunt of Lethbridge, AB; Donna and Robert Siddall of Calgary, AB; Perry Freed of Airdrie, AB; Monica and Doug Milot of Two Hills, AB; Sheila and Greg Sammons of Newport, OR; Grace’s daughters Patti Durand of St. John, NB, and Linda and Roger Smith of Calgary, AB; as well as fifteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Habkirk, William Donald (Bill)

William Donald (Bill) Habkirk, beloved husband of Mildred Habkirk of Calgary, passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2006, after a long illness at the age of 74 years.

Bill was born on October 22, 1931 in Peace River, AB. He received his two trades and his Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta. On April 26, 1952, Bill married Mildred in High Prairie, AB. Bill taught high school for the CBE for twenty-three years and retired in 1995. He was a member of the ATA. Bill’s greatest achievement in life was his family.

Besides his loving wife, Bill is also survived by his children, Jim, Peggy (Mel) Otteson, Donald (Beverly), and Bobbi, all of Calgary; and by a brother and sister. Bill was predeceased by his parents; and his grandson Glenn Otteson.

Ian Jay Chrysler of Calgary, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 27, 2006 at the age of 44 years.

Ian was born on March 26, 1961 and continued to live and work in Calgary, AB. He graduated from Dr. E. P. Scarlett High School. Ian was an accomplished athlete, mastering many sports. His favourite times included skiing in the mountains and water skiing at White Fish. Ian was always ready and willing to lend a helping hand to family and friends. Ian was predeceased by his father Ernie Chrysler.

Ian is survived by his son Matthew Chrysler, of Calgary, AB; his sister Jill Chrysler, of Vancouver, BC and his mother Helen Duncan and John Duncan, of Lake Cowichan, BC. Ian will also be remembered by his many friends. Special thanks to the staff at the Fanning Centre.
