Field, Aileen Ethel

Aileen Ethel Field of Calgary passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2005 at the age of 91 years.

Aileen was born on November 27, 1913 in Exter, Devonshire, England. She moved from England to Timmons, ON on October 13, 1923. Aileen was married on October 5, 1929 to William (Bill) Mark Field and relocated from Timmons to Calgary in 1954.

Aileen is survived by her three sons and their spouses, Dennis “Slim” and Jean Field of Gore Bay, ON; Peter and Marie Field of Airdrie, AB and Wayne Field of Calgary. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren and their spouses, Dawn Manning, Darryl (Glenda), Dwight (Brenda), Laurie (Jonathan) Harvey, Colleen, Janice (Justin) Harvey, Sheri (Muir Simpson) and Jemie; as well as her six great-grandchildren. Aileen was predeceased by her husband Bill Field; her brother Cliff Milton; and her daughter-in-law Dorothy Field.

Shepherd, Leslie Frederick

Leslie Frederick Shepherd, beloved husband, father and grandfather, of Calgary, passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2005 at the age of 83 years.

Leslie was born on July 22, 1922 in Readlyn, SK, the eldest of four siblings. Being raised on the farm in Saskatchewan meant long days and hard work. It was that work ethic that he passed along proudly to his family. As a young man, Les excelled at competitive ball and was a much sought after player. Les was a knowledgeable horseman and loved to follow the Rodeo Circuit and Chuckwagons. You always knew when he entered a room with his signature apparel of a Stetson, belt buckle and boots. Les moved with his family to Calgary in the 1950’s where he went on to distinguish himself as a much respected Oilman. He spent many years working throughout western Canada and later held a Superintendent position overseas. His diligent work ethic had him honoured with many safety awards within this field. Les was a man of few words and enjoyed the simple things in life. In his heart, his family and friends meant the world to him. His quiet compassion always expressed that. Les will be remembered for his kindness and generosity. He will be dearly missed by the many lives he touched with his humble spirit.

Besides his wife Violet Shepherd, Les is survived by his son Rick Shepherd, a daughter and son-in-law Cherrie and Paul Sims; two brothers, Archie Shepherd, and Richard Shepherd and wife Helen.

Ann (Annie) Weaver passed away peacefully Friday, July 29, 2005 at home, surrounded by her loving family.

Ann is survived by her beloved Fred, devoted husband and soul-mate of sixty-four years; her only daughter Lynn (Alan) Schooley of Regina, who cared for her mother through the last weeks of a lengthy illness; her only grandson Christopher (Frances) Ewington of Calgary; caring friends, Joan and Bob Byers, Sue and Peter Mott of Calgary; four sisters; and a brother all of the United Kingdom.

Egbert, William Gordon Neil

William (Bill) Egbert, beloved husband of Margot, of Calgary, passed away on Friday, July 29, 2005 at the age of 76 years.

Bill was born in Calgary and was proud of being a Calgarian. He was a volunteer for the 1988 Olympics and a long-time supporter of the Calgary Stampede where he was granted the title of Honorary Lifetime Director upon his retirement. Golf was a passion for Bill and like his father he was a member of the Calgary Golf & Country Club, where he served on several committees including spending one year as the Club President. Bill achieved his Law Degree from the University of Alberta in 1952 and practiced in Calgary. He served on various committees for the Law Society of Alberta, and then in 1979 achieved a lifelong goal of following his father to a position as a Justice of the Court of Queen’s Bench, where he remained until his retirement in 1996.

Bill will lovingly be remembered by his wife Margot; his children, Sherri, Cyndi, Michael, and William; as well as his grandchildren, Michael, Paul, and Jeffrey.

Allen, Darin Roy

Darin Allen, beloved husband of Cindy and loving father of Dawson of Calgary, passed away suddenly on Thursday, July 28, 2005 at the age of 33 years.

He is also survived by his parents Roy and Myrna; his sister Kellee-Lyn; and his grandparents, Ruby Peterson and Don and Trudy Normand.

Darin is remembered by his in-laws, Susan and Bill Gauthier, Bill and Vi Roberts, Cari-Ann Roberts and Jonathan Klisko; as well as an extensive family and a great number of close friends who were like family to him.

Darin was born in Houston, TX on June 8, 1972. He moved to Calgary with his family at a young age, graduating from Bishop Grandin High School in 1990. He was an entrepreneur and an excellent Salesman, with his last position being at Apple Fitness. He loved spending time camping with his family and friends, especially spending time with his little buddy Dawson.

Caunt, Charles (Charlie) William

Charles (Charlie) William Caunt, beloved husband of Mildred Caunt of Calgary, passed away on Friday, July 29, 2005 at the age of 85 years.

Charles was born on January 22, 1920 in London, England and later immigrated to Canada with his first wife Betty. Charles was a passionate golfer and enjoyed woodworking. He worked for the City of Calgary in Building Maintenance and was also instrumental in the development of Calgary 1st Financial. In 1984, Charles and Mildred were married. Together they enjoyed two cruises, and travelled to England.

Besides his loving wife Mildred, Charles is also survived by his son Michael Caunt; and his two daughters and sons-in-law, Ann and Ray Caunt and Lynn and Bill Barnes, all of Calgary. He is also survived by three grandchildren and their spouses, Paul and Armina Caunt, Susan and Cameron Farn, Cathy and Kiley Simpson; and his great-grandchild, Aiden Simpson. Charles was predeceased by his first wife Elizabeth (Betty); his sisters, Alice Amey and Ellen (Nell) Ely; and his brother Ted Caunt.

Bevan, Doris

Doris Elizabeth Bevan, beloved wife of the late John Bevan of Calgary, passed away on Tuesday, July 19, 2005 at the age of 75 years.

Doris was born on May 14, 1930 in Dublin, Ireland. She came to Canada in 1956 and married John Richard Bevan a year later. Together they returned to Ireland for a time until coming back to Canada to settle in Calgary. Doris enjoyed knitting and spending time with her family and friends. She was well-loved by all the neighbourhood children and became known as “Grandma Doris”. She had a heart of gold and a compassion for others in everything. She was also an avid supporter of national sports and a great fan of the Calgary Flames and Canadian football. Her Irish heritage was a very important part of her life and she made certain to educate her children in her history.

Doris is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Jackie and Daniel Nast and their children, Mandy, Brittany and Ashley, all of Calgary. She is also survived by several sisters, a brother, in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband John Bevan.

Gladys was born on July 19, 1918 in Oyen, AB. She retired to live in the Okanagan for twenty-four years before coming to Calgary five years ago to be closer to her family.

Gladys is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Ken and Kerry of Calgary and Malcolm and Donna of Mission, BC; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters, Violet, Evelyn and Dorothy, all of Calgary; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Ken; son Bob; brother Ralph; and sister Eileen.

Bessie was born on March 19, 1918 in Toronto, ON. She married Neil Kerr in 1940 at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Calgary. She was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose and Fraternal Order of Eagles, as well as the Bow Cliff Seniors. Bessie also enjoyed knitting, arts and crafts and being with her family.

Bessie is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Frank and Cheryl Kerr and their sons, Ken, Rick and Bill; her daughter Barbara and her children, Barry and Amy Hensch and David Hensch; as well as two great-grandchildren, Christopher and Jacob, all of Calgary. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Bessie was predeceased by her husband Neil; and son-in-law Elwood.
