Pearl Valentine Payne (nee Murray) beloved wife of Mr. Bernard Payne of Calgary, passed away on Saturday, January 29, 2005 at the age of 79 years.
Pearl was born on February 14, 1925 in Drumheller, AB. She received her education at the one room schoolhouse Craighton School, Drumheller High School and Calgary Business College. Pearl worked as Secretary for an Accounting Firm in Drumheller and was the Private Secretary for Calgary Transit System. Pearl married Bernard Payne on June 9, 1951. She was a member of the Kinette Club, the First Canadian Collector Club and the Southwest Seniors Club and enjoyed many winters in Arizona.
Besides her beloved husband Bernard, Pearl is survived by her three sons and one daughter and their spouses, Dorothy MacKay-Holmberg and Brian Holmberg of Cochrane, AB, Doug Payne , Don and Janet Payne, and Dave and Melissa Payne, all of Calgary. She is also survived by her three grandsons ,MacKenzie, Daniel and Cade; and her great-granddaughter Chantelle MacKay; as well as her sisters Kay Whipple, Mona Tyler and Mavis McKay.

Rosie (Tecla) DeFerro of Calgary passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 29, 2005 at the age of 96 years.
Rosie was born in Antrodoco, Italy on September 5, 1908 and immigrated to Calgary in 1909 with her parents, Vincenzo and Genoveffa Grassi. She married Antonio DeFerro in 1934 and moved to Nelson, BC.
She was predeceased by her husband Tony in 1975; son Charlie; grandson Bradley and daughter-in-law Beverly; brother Mario Grassi; and sisters Lea Ferrari, Helen Key and Mary Tedeschini. Rosie will be remembered for her strength of character, courage and love of family.

Mr. Manuel Silva Bettencourt, beloved husband of Delminda of Calgary, passed away on Sunday, January 30, 2005 at the age of 79 years.
Manuel was born on April 6, 1925 in Graciosa Azores, Portugal and came to Canada on May 4, 1967. Manuel and Delminda were married for fifty-four years.
Besides his loving wife Delminda, Manuel is survived by his son John Bettencourt; grandchildren, Jamie and Cristal; brothers, Ermelindo, Jose, Antero, Albano, and David; sisters, Maria, Edwuina, Eugenia, Delfina, Ondina and Zulmira; as well as numerous nieces and nephews in Canada and the United States. Karl R. Brinker, M.D., F.R.C.P. (C), F.A.C.P., beloved husband of Mary Lynn Brinker, passed away in Brownwood, Texas on January 22, 2005 at the age of 58 years.
Karl was born on August 10, 1946 in Mt. Pleasant, MI. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1968 from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI. In 1972 he received his M.D., C.M. from McGill University in Montreal, QC. From 1975 to 1977 he served in the U.S. military with the Center for Disease Control in Ft. Collins, CO in conjunction with the U.S. Public Health Service. From 1977 to 1979 he served a fellowship in Nephrology at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Dallas, TX. Karl worked at Methodist Medical Center and as a Clinical Associate Professor with the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, TX for twenty years. In 2004, he took an educational sabbatical with the Division of Nephrology and Transplantation Immunology with Phillip Halloran, M.D., Ph.D. at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, AB. Karl was an avid outdoorsman who especially enjoyed dry fly fishing. He was a huge hockey fan, a proud Michigan Alumnus and a long-time youth baseball coach. Karl was a loving father, husband, brother, and friend. He was a compassionate caregiver and had a wonderful sense of humour.
Besides his loving wife of thirty-four years, Mary Lynn Brinker (nee Morris), he is survived by his daughter Stephanie Kaye Brinker; his son Andrew Oberlin Brinker and his fiancÚ Andrea Kathleen Estey; a sister Linda Kaye Crawford and her husband Jack; as well as numerous beloved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents W. F. “Bill” and Anita Dian Brinker.

Viola (Pearl) Henderson (nee Godlonton), beloved wife of Don Henderson of Calgary, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 28, 2005 at the age of 78 years.
Pearl was born on September 18, 1926 in Calgary, AB. She married Donald Henderson on August 24, 1948 at the First Baptist Church. They resided in Calgary, Wetaskiwin, Lethbridge, and Banff. Pearl was a caring mother and talented painter of lovely mountain scenes, as well as the creator of beautiful baby clothes and warm afghans that her family will treasure.

It is with great sadness that the family of Ken Schwartzenberger announce his passing Saturday January 29, 2005 at the age of 63.
Ken was born January 6, 1942 in Young, SK. He moved to Calgary in 1969 and incorporated his own company in 1978, Ken-El Construction Ltd. He loved camping, dirt biking, cooking for the family and was an avid hockey and curling fan. He was someone who would always listen and do anything for his family and friends. He died as he lived, with faith, a strong spirit and courage.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Jeanne; children Todd, Tracey, Trevor; and granddaughter Gracie. He is also survived by his mother Eva of Saskatoon; brothers Lambert (Evelyn) of Saskatoon, Ray (Lorrie) of Crofton, BC, Reg (Bobbi) of Saskatoon, SK; and sister-in-law Rose Schwartzenberger of Calgary. Ken was predeceased by his father Peter; sisters, Betty and Rosemarie; and brother Al.

With great sadness and broken hearts we announce the death of Rose Elasz on Sunday, January 23, 2005.
Rose’s devoted husband of fifty-four years, Howard; her loving children, Carol (Steve), Marlene, Pat, Doug, Kate (Brad), Denise (Antony), and Jay (Gord); her grandchildren, Sarah, Brian, Emma, Liam, EsmÚe, Dino and Colton will miss her more than she could ever imagine. Rose will be remembered for her laugh, warmth, and giving nature, but most of all because she was the best Mom in the whole world. She grew up in the French farming community of St. Denis, SK with her parents and her siblings Irene, Wilfrid, Evelyn, Armand and Vivianne. Rose loved all of life’s celebrations. She found great joy in planning the best Christmas’ and birthdays for her family and in her later years looked forward to spending time with her husband in Mexico each winter.

Robert “Hartley” Beattie of Calgary passed away peacefully at the Rockyview General Hospital on Friday, January 28, 2005 at the age of 92 years.
Hartley was born in Convoy, County Donegal, Ireland where his father and grandfather were successively Ministers of the Presbyterian Church. His education included an M.A. from Trinity College in Dublin, Divinity Studies including a year at Princeton Theological Seminary and a Social Work Degree from the University of Toronto. During World War II, Hartley served as a Chaplain to the British Forces in Europe, Asia and the United Kingdom. After six years of service as Minister of Barry Parish Church in Scotland, he came to Canada in 1952 with his wife Dr. Nancy Beattie and their son Tudor. Hartley was the Minister of Knox Presbyterian Church in St. Catharines, ON from 1952 until 1954 before moving to Hamilton, ON to pursue a career as a Probation Officer and Social Worker with the Government of Ontario until his retirement in 1977. Both Nancy and Hartley were active in church and community affairs while living in Hamilton. He was an Elder at Central Presbyterian Church for many years. In 1996, Hartley and Nancy moved to Calgary to be with their son and his family.
Hartley was predeceased by his beloved wife Nancy in 1999 after a wonderful marriage of fifty-five years. He is survived by his loving son and daughter-in-law Tudor and Lyn Beattie and his granddaughter Sara whom he adored.
